Dual Boot Ubuntu 16.04 - Windows 10 Time Fix

By default this Operating system use different method in how they aquire time from internet server. Ubuntu (and other linux distribution) always set the RTC on the computer into UTC, so if you move arround between countries there will be no problem in updating local time, in other hand Windows set the RTC into local time. But we can manage this by setting windows do the same thing as linux, read the RTC in UTC.

In Windows do this steps:

  • go to Start Menu, search for and launch cmd as Administrator.
  • When the command console opens, paste below command to create a DWORD value to the registry:

    Reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation /v RealTimeIsUniversal /t REG_DWORD /d 1

For 64-bit Windows, use a QWORD value instead:

    Reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation /v RealTimeIsUniversal /t REG_QWORD /d 1

  • Disable the “internet update” for the time and reboot.
